Country’s hottest duo scored another number one this week. Their second radio single, “Sun Daze,” off their sophomore album Anything Goes reached the top spot on both the Mediabase and Billboard Country Airplay charts. It’s a track that continues to push the boundaries of pop country and one that’s received mixed reviews. Some are hesitant to praise a song that seems to revolve solely around getting high and drinking beers, while others continue to push FGL as the future of country. Whatever your take, there’s no denying their success.
Eric Church’s fourth studio album, The Outsiders, continues to deliver nearly a year after its release. The album which has sold over a million copies and earned Church three Grammy Awards produced another number one hit this week. “Talladega” tells the story of Church and his buddies heading down to the iconic Alabama racetrack the summer before the real world started. But it’s about more than spending a weekend at your local speedway. The song speaks holding onto life before heading out into the real world, something that everyone can relate to. From the song’s slow opening to it’s blazing finishing pace, there’s no question Church got things right with this track.
