It’s Valentine’s Day weekend and if you’re girl is a country fan there’s plenty of shows to take her to. Tonight, Sam Hunt brings his Lipstick Graffiti Tour to House of Blues Boston with special guest Native Run. It’s Hunt’s first time performing in the region as a headliner and Native Run’s second trip as an opener. Hunt and his team will travel north to Burlington, Vermont Friday night when they visit Higher Ground. Both shows are sold out, but some tickets are still available on StubHub. If you’re not in the market to spend a lot of cash or any cash on entertainment, we’ve got you covered. Eli Young Band will perform a free show at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den on Friday night and Eric Paslay will do the same Saturday evening. Both of these shows are 21+.
One of country’s best songwriters will take the stage at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday night. Phil Vassar, who has penned songs for the likes of Tim McGraw and David Nail, will bring his high energy set to the venue in what is sure to be a night full of family friendly country music. Vassar’s stage presence would make you think he’s still in his youth. He’ll move about the stage, engage the audience, and even interact with those closest to the front. He really is a true showman.
It’s not just his stage presence that makes Phil Vassar one of our favorite artists to watch perform. His songs also play a vital role, and we’re not just talking about the ones his written for other. His original tunes are equally as compelling. He reached the top five on the charts with songs such as “Carlene,” “In a Real Love,” and “Love is a Beautiful Thing” among others. If you’re unfamiliar with Vassar’s music the first thing you should know is that his sound highlights the piano rather than the guitar. It’s something that you don’t hear too often in modern country and that makes it refreshing. We saw Vassar perform back in August at the Woodstock Fair (Photos) and were blown away by his cover of Elton John’s “Piano Man.” He closed his set with the track and performed the opening piano solo himself in what was really the highlight of the night.
So if you’re looking to catch some great country music in the Northeast this weekend head on down to the Ridgefield Playhouse and check out Phil Vassar. Tickets available here.

They’ll be out on the road for much of the year hitting places they’ve never been, including the Northeast. We chatted with lead singer Waylon Owings this week about new music, 2015 plans, and quitting their day jobs to pursue music full time.
