Last week the CMA Awards proved that true country isn’t dead just yet. In fact if “Girl Crush” and Chris Stapleton’s awards are any indication the good stuff is about to make a comeback.
The Florida Georgia Line and Sam Hunt’s of the world are always going to have a place on the pop side of the genre, but they’ll never have the power of the classics. It’s those powerful lyrics in that Little Big Town tune and soulful melodies from the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer that remind us of the only genre that has the power to make you smile in one verse and shed a tear in the next.
Tim McGraw’s new album, Damn Country Music, holds on of those tunes. “Humble and Kind” is a special song. Written by Massachusetts native Lori McKenna, it’s one of those songs that knocks you back and makes you think about every decision you’ve made. A song that reminds you that you can always be a better person – one that always stays humble and kind.
