If you were to have bought Chris Young’s third album when it was released in 2013, then you might have already known about the masterpiece that is Lonely Eyes. For those of you who didn’t, well then you have been missing out for the better part of a year and a half. Lonely Eyes is one of the best, if not the best, song on the album, which is impressive considering hits like “Aw Naw” and “Who I Am With You” were also included on the record.

The song, penned by Johnny Bulford, Jason Matthews, and Laura Veltz, covers familiar ground for the Texas born singer as it is a ballad. Different from other love songs he has released however, most notably, Who I Am with you, the upbeat tempo provides a refreshing spin. The opening lines, Tuesday night crowded bar
some guy lights a cheap cigar, bartender yells at him, so he walks out and you walk in, set the scene well for the rest of the song. Different than much of today’s bro country, the song is less concerned with generalities and more concerned with storytelling. Young’s voice, hailed as one of the best in country music sounds great in any arrangement; however, this might be one of his best performances of late because of the range he displays throughout the track.
