CMT Artists of the Year

Updated: Luke Bryan will not perform or attend the even due to the loss of his brother and law over the weekend. He’s in Georgia spending time with family. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Tomorrow night CMT will air their annual Artists of the Year special to highlight the top five artists in country music over the past year. The hour and a half show will be hosted by southern funny man Larry the Cable Guy. This year’s honorees include Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, and Miranda Lambert. Each honoree will perform one of their biggest songs of the year and be honored for their acheivements over the past year. This is the perfect way to end the year for Aldean who failed to win an award at the CMA Awards this year despite having the second best first week sales of an album this year.

Jason Aldean

Aldean has had one of the best year’s in music over the past twelve months. In May he hit the road with Tyler Farr and Florida Georgia Line for the 2014 Burn it Down Tour which was one of the top selling tours of the year. This summer also featured the release of the platinum single “Burnin’ It Down” which reached the peak position across the country charts. The single sparked enough interest from his devoted fans to make Old Boots, New Dirt the second best selling country album of the year. Aldean wrapped his the year with arguably the biggest announcement of the year. He’ll be hitting the road with Kenny Chesney for 10 dates next summer in what’s sure to be one of the best tours of the year.

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan led country music in concert attendance during 2014. He took his That’s My Kind of Night Tour to over thirty cities with some help from his good buddies Cole Swindell and Lee Brice. While on the road Bryan sold out venues such as Gillette Stadium, Soldier Field, and Madison Square Garden. It was a good year for Bryan on the charts as well despite not releasing a new album Bryan was still able to top the charts three times with “Drink a Beer,” “Play it Again,” and “Roller Coaster.” Bryan’s year hit its peak when he was awarded the CMA Entertainer of the Year.

Florida Georgia Line

They may not have headlined their own tour, but Florida Georgia Line had another incredible year in 2014. While on the road with Jason Aldean, FGL was able to fine tune their skills as they prepare to head out on their Anything Goes Tour in 2015. Like all of the artists being honored Florida Georgia Line had a huge year on the charts. The group found themselves at the top of the charts three times with “Stay,” “This is How We Roll,” and “Dirt.” All three songs went platinum, but it was “Dirt” that paved the way to their sophomore release Anything Goes which sold nearly two hundred thousand copies. Their year wrapped up with the CMA Award for Vocal Duo of the Year and American Music Award for Favorite Country Duo.

Miranda Lambert

Lambert cemented her place as the top female artist during 2014 when she was the only female to headline an amphitheater. That decision came on the heels of a record seven nominations at the ACM Awards where she took home four awards including Female Artist of the Year for the fifth straight time. Her strong start to the year was followed up with the release of her fifth studio album Platinum, which has produced the number one hit “Automatic” and platinum single “Somethin” Bad.”

Keith Urban

Urban hit the road for the second straight year in support of Fuse. The tour featured Brett Eldredge and Jerrod Neimann and was one of the hottest tickets of the summer. He failed to top the charts during 2014, but found himself with two top five hits with “Cop Car” and “Somewhere in My Car.” When he wasn’t on the road Urban found himself busy being a judge on the FOX reality show American Idol. It was his third year on the panel and he has been consistently praised as one of the better judges in the shows fourteen year history.
